Eric Fossum, a Queen Elizabeth Prize laureate, invented an active pixel image sensor used in almost all cell phone cameras, webcams, many digital-still cameras, and in medical imaging. He worked at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, was CEO of Photobit Corporation and Siimpel Corporation, and cofounded Gigajot Technology. His research focuses on the next generation of solid-state image sensors for photon-counting and gigapixel cameras.
